What's a good fly for King Salmon?
Depending on where you are going, a lot of different flies can work. The all around favorite is a Fat Freddie.

What's a good fly for Red Salmon?
Again, this can depend on where you are going. For the most part flies like Polar Shrimp, Sockeye Orange, Montana Brassie and the Green Lantern will work. Suggest fishing these flies "dead drift" using a floating line and long leader.

What weight fly rod should I use?
Usually we suggest a 10 wt. for King Salmon, 7 or 8 wt. for Silvers, Sockeye, trophy Rainbows and Dolly Varden. A 5 or 6 wt. for smaller Rainbows & Dollies and a 3 wt. is ideal for grayling. A 3 wt. to 5 wt. is ideal for lake fishing depending on what size fish you know area available.

When is the best time to fish dry flies?
June & July are the best months for dry fly fishing, however August can be interesting fishing dries like the Pink Polly Wog for Silvers.

Speaking of Silvers, what's a good fly?
You can't go wrong with an egg-sucking leech but there are other flies that work better if you are going to Bristol Bay. Alaska Bou's, Cook's Popsicle, Fushia Bunny Bugs or anything tied with cerise, fushia or hot pink colors will work.

What fly lines should I use?
To be totally prepared for any fishing, the following lines are needed. 1 - floating. 2 - Type 3 Cortland or SA Sink Tips. 3 - type 6 Cortland or Wet tip V SA Sink Tips. 4 - For extremely fast or high water a Cortland Quick Decent or Teeny Nymph line is needed. these lines come in 130 gr. to 625 gr. You should choose one that is matched to the fly rod you plan to use.

When is a good time to come to Alaska to fish?
Steelhead fishing is best in Southeast Alaska during the months of April & May, then September through November. Salmon fishing is best between may and August. It is best to check with local area fly shops or ADF&G for fishing regulations regarding openings and closures. Rainbow trout, etc. is good between may and early October. Prime time is August 15 through September 30. Again check with local area fly shops regarding fishing regulations and water conditions.
