AUGUST'S FLY: The Sparkle Shrimp

The Sparkle Shrimp is an effective pattern for king, silver, pink and chum salmon. It has also been know to catch large rainbow trout and dolly varden while targeting pacific salmon. The pattern is popular in chartreuse, cerise and pink but don't be afraid to use other colors.
Thread: 3/0 to match body
Hook: #2-8 UTE Salmon
Lead: .025 or .030
Tail: Flashabou, Pearl
Body: Chenille
Body Hackle: Saddle
BackFlashabou, Pearl

Wrap lead on the hook shank from above the hook point to the loop back of eye. Wrap the thread back and forth to lock the lead in place.
Attach the Flashabou at the rear creating a short tail. Leave a length of Flashabou over the body. Bind down wrapping your thread from the rear forward to the lead.
Fold the Flashabou back over the tail and bind with thread to the rear.
Attach the chenille on the far side top. Attach the body hackle by the tip on the near side top. Bring your thread forward to an eye width behind the eye.
Wrap the body forward with tight wraps, tying off and trim excess. Palmer the hackle forward with a couple of extra wraps at the front of the body. Tie off and secure with a few tight wraps.
Separate the hackle fibers on top of the body and stroke to each side. bring the Flashabou directly over the top as a shellback. Tie off and trim excess.
Wrap a tight head and whip finish.
